An elevator system in which a controller monitors whether the speed of an elevating/lowering body reaches a preset over-speed or not. During maintenance work, a stopper is interposed between a buffer and the elevating/lowering body in order to limit the lowering position of the elevating/lowering body. A stopper detection means detects the fact that the stopper has been installed in at least any one of the buffer and the elevating/lowering body. When the stopper is detected by the stopper detection means, the controller lowers the set value of an over-speed.
