A pharmaceutical composition for treating spinal cord, which contains a ghrelin as an active ingredient is provided to have the effects of motion function improvement, spinal cord neural cell apoptosis inhibition, wound site reduction, and demyelination reduction. A pharmaceutical composition for treating injury of spinal cord comprises a ghrelin as an active ingredient. A pharmaceutical composition for treating central nervous system diseases comprises the ghrelin as an active ingredient. The central nervous system diseases is traumatic brain injury, ischemia, and multiple sclerosis. The composition further comprises an estrogen or minocyline.
