It is intended to make it possible to determine the concentration of a substance (for example, an endotoxin or beta-D-glucan), which can be measured via gelation, within a short time and at a high sensitivity and a high specificity. In an apparatus for determining a target substance in a sample via gelation, a sample cell (13), which contains a specimen containing the target substance and a solution containing a reagent inducing gelation, is irradiated with laser beams emitted from a semiconductor laser (11). The solution in the sample cell is stirred with a stirrer (25) to form fine and homogeneous gel particles which are allowed to pass through the laser beams. The light scattered by the gel particles formed in the sample cell (13) is detected with photo diode arrays (18). Based on the output of the scattered light detection, the scattered light intensity or the particle diameter and count of the gel particles are measured on time series by the computer (21).
|
