[Class 65(ii)] [Also in Group XXXI] Relates to a joint in vehicular endless track (see Group XXXI), having the bearing surfaces of a link connecting bolt hermetically sealed against the entry of dirt, &c. by axially compressed sealing rings. The sealing rings for each joint are pressed axially against lateral faces of one of the links by the compression action of a nut on one end of the bolt, the compression action being applied through axially movable metallic bushes surrounding the bolt and located in bores in jaws on the other link, and additional sealing rings are located at the outer ends of the bores and are similarly compressed by the nut. As shown each link 1 is formed with a boss 2 at one end and the jaws 3, 4, at the other, the boss of one link fitting between the jaws.of the adjacent links and interconnected by the bolt 6. On the bolt 6 at each side of the boss 2 is mounted one rubber sealing ring. Each ring has a flange 7<1> of the same diameter as the bore 5 in each. jaw and is sandwiched between the boss 2 and the axially movable bush 10. The assembly is held in position by the head 6<1> of the bolt, rotation of the head being prevented by a flat 6a on the head mating with a lug 12 on the jaw 4, and at the other end of the bolt a stout washer 9 having a boss like part 9<1> engaging in the bore of the jaw 3, the washer being held in position by the nut 8. Entry of dirt, &c. behind the head 6<1> or the washer 9 is prevented by the additional sealing ring 13 which may be formed of rubber, soft metal or other suitable material. A seal is provided between the bolt 6 and the washer 9 by a short taper 6b on the bolt and a mating taper on the inner diameter of the washer. |
