Class 79(v) A vehicle has its front and rear wheels steerable in the same direction, the movement of the rear wheels being less, preferably a half to one-third, than that of the front wheels. The arrangement is particularly suitable for agricultural tractors when working across a slope, the tendency of the rear wheels to slip sideways down the slop thereby being counteracted. Provision may be made for lifting the front wheels clear of the ground when the tractor is coupled to a tractor, so that the tractor runs on and is steered by the rear wheels only. As shown, the steering drop arm 2 is connected to the front wheels by a dray link 3 and to the rear wheels by a drag link 4, the points of attachment of the drag links to the drop arm being arranged to give a reduced steering effect on the rear wheels. The point of attachment of the rear drag link 4 to the drop arm is adjustable so that the rear wheel steering effect may be varied down to nil. The front wheels may be carried by pivoted arms and power-operated means provided to lift the front wheels to the dotted line position so that when the tractor is coupled to a trailer it acts as a two-wheeled motor forecarriage. |
