A seatbelt retractor using a MEMS acceleration sensor and a control method thereof are provided to prevent the seat belt from being drawn out by measuring acceleration or slope with the MEMS acceleration sensor and operating the lock pale with the solenoid. A seatbelt retractor using a MEMS acceleration sensor and a control method thereof comprise a locking unit(60) which comprises a pole lift unit(63) which lifts up a locking pole by moving a solenoid(64); and a recliner sensor which controls the solenoid with the measured value after acceleration and slope of a vehicle are measured by the MEMS(Microelectromechanical System) acceleration sensor.
