<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for treating surplus activated sludge, in which cells of microbes living in the surplus activated sludge are destructed to withdraw the water in the cells to the outside so that the water content of the surplus activated sludge can be lowered drastically and to provide a method for producing solid fuel by using the method for treating surplus activated sludge, and the solid fuel. <P>SOLUTION: Steam is injected directly into the surplus activated sludge of≥94 wt.% water content to heat-treat the surplus activated sludge so that the surplus activated sludge is circulated convectively by the injected steam and contacted with steam to destruct cells of microbes. Microbe groups and biopolymers such as protein or nucleic acid flowing out of the destructed cells of microbes constituting microbe groups are denatured thermally by the heat of steam and the denatured microbes and biopolymers are made to work as flocculants. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT</p> |
