Class 64(ii) Room spaces are heated by surfaces,. such as hot-fluid pipes 10 which may have fins, arranged below radiating surfaces 11 in a plane 7 between the floor 3 and roof 2, whereby the larger proportion of the heat emitted from the heating surfaces to the radiating surfaces by radiation and convection is returned to the lower part- 9 of the room and by diffused radiation directed solely by the surfaces 11. The plane 7 of the heating pipes 10 is 6 to 10 feet from the floor 3, and, to confine the heat. emitted to the upper part 8 of the room to that necessary for avoiding cold down-draughts, insulation such as glass wool, silk pads or felt is provided on the upper surface of trough-shaped screens 11 spaced from the pipes. The screen edges ;usually extend below the pipes 10 to confine convection currents but, to regulate further, by increase, the heat emitted roofwards, the screens may be raised to induce currents outside of them. The heat is directed downwards by diffused radiation (as opposed to reflection) and the screens 11 are of metal or rough material coated with lustreless paint.
