An applicator (1) for applying a coating material formed mainly of capsules enclosing a functional material comprises a body (2) having a coating material storage chamber (2s) for storing the coating material and a felt (4) as a coating element for coating an object to be coated with the coating material supplied from the coating material storage chamber (2s) and a spatula (5) additionally attached to the body (2) and having a pressing surface (5a) as a breaking enhancing element for enhancing the breakage of the capsules contained in the coating material.
