Provided are a composite material having a gradually soluble coating film which is applied to wet area equipment or the like and has water resistance to water flow, and a coating composition. That is, the composite material comprises a substrate and a gradually soluble coating film formed at room temperature on a region on the substrate surface which temporarily comes into contact with water. The gradually soluble coating film comprises a zinc(II) ion salt and polyacrylamide and is characterized in that a ratio of an amount of material of the salt (mol) to an amount of material of a unit structure of polyacrylamide (mol) is 1/100 or higher and 10 or less.
