PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an MMI type optical device that can prevent a possible decrease in transmission rate despite of a reduced size and integration. SOLUTION: The optical device includes a rectangular multimode waveguide 1 and a plurality of single mode waveguides 2 which are connected in parallel so that the respective connected parts may be arranged in the width direction of input end part of the rectangular multimode waveguide 1. An electromagnetic wave absorber 11 of light source wavelength is located on at least one side surface of the optical path of the rectangular multimode waveguide 1 and is located at a prescribed gap H from a core 14 of the rectangular multimode waveguide 1.
