PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a surface mount coil component that is manufactured in low-profile, and has a satisfactory magnetic characteristic and a small mounting area. SOLUTION: The surface mount coil includes: a drum type core 11 comprising a winding core part 11a, an upper flange part 11b at its upper end, and a lower flange part 11c at its lower end; a pair of connection electrodes 16a, 16b formed on the surface of the lower flange part; and a coil conductive wire 12 wound around the winding core part with one and the other end parts 12a, 12b respectively conduction-connected to the connection electrodes. The upper flange part is formed with at least two rectangular corner parts 15a, 15b respectively lacking in polygonal shape having an approximately right triangle shape. The rectangular lower flange part includes the connection electrode having an upper surface part 16T of respective approximate right triangle shape in the vicinity of the corner facing the lacking corner of the flange part. The end parts of the coil conductive wire are respectively conduction-connected to the upper surface part of the connection electrode by thermo-compression bonding with a heater chip HC inserted to the lacking corner of the upper flange.
