PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sound absorbing body capable of being made thin in thickness and light in weight and improving constitution and sound absorption performance with a simple structure. SOLUTION: A sound absorbing body 10 comprises a porous material 11 and a surface layer 12 formed on an outer peripheral surface side of the porous material 11, and is constituted with no frame body or box body. The surface layer 12 is formed by executing processes such as heating the outer peripheral surface of the porous material 11 and dissolving the outer peripheral surface side of the porous material 11 with a solvent so as to melt or dissolve the porous material 11 partially.
