PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an alcoholic carbon black dispersion having an excellent dispersibility in an alcoholic dispersant, excellent in quick drying property and suitably used as a black ink for an inkjet printer, corresponding to a high speed machine. SOLUTION: This alcoholic carbon black dispersion is characterized by chemically modifying carboxyl groups on the surface of the carbon black by the ring opening reaction of oxirane ring to form a hydroxyester, and dispersing such the carbon black as a main component in an alcoholic medium having alcoholic hydroxy groups. The method for producing the same is characterized by refluxing the oxidation-treated carbon black and an oxirane compound in a reaction solvent in the presence of a catalyst to perform the ring-opening reaction of the oxirane ring for hydroxy-esterifying and chemically modifying the carboxyl groups on the surface of the carbon black, and then dispersing the carbon black as a main component into the alcoholic medium having the alcoholic hydroxy groups.
