PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an acrylic or a (meth)acrylic ester monomer synthesizable in a small number of reaction steps, and having a specific structure, and to provide a polymer obtained by polymerizing the monomer, and exhibiting liquid crystallinity. SOLUTION: The acrylic or the (meth)acrylic ester monomer is synthesized by using a compound derived from a 4-chloromethylbenzoyl chloride having two active sites having different reactivity as an intermediate, and has a specific structure. The polymer is obtained by polymerizing a monomer component containing the acrylic or the (meth)acrylic ester monomer, and exhibits a liquid crystalline property. COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT
