PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To timely carry a medium to an image recording area wherein an image is recorded in the medium. SOLUTION: The medium carrying device SU comprises first adjusting carrying member control means C6, C6' driven at recording area carrying velocity V2 when a carrying direction front end of the medium S enters a medium carrying member Rr, and driven at high-speed carrying velocity V1 when driving is started; second adjusting carrying member control means C5, C5' each driving a second adjusting carrying member Rpr1 at either of the carrying velocities; and an enter timing adjusting means C4 changing the carrying velocity of a first adjusting carrying member Rpr2 and the second adjusting carrying member Rpr1 from the high-speed carrying velocity V1 to the recording area carrying velocity V2 on the basis of medium detecting time t1, t1' until a carrying direction front end of the medium is detected by medium detecting members SN1, SN1', and adjusting timing when the medium S enters an image recording area Q3.
