In the process for manufacturing a master disk, a stamper, a disk substrate and an optical disk, considerations are made into the improvement in the parting property of the stamper and the disk substrate from the manufacturing step of the master disk and the maintenance of satisfactory signal characteristics after the optical disk was manufactured. In the master disk, fine protrusions from the flat face of a non-recessed portion are formed in the boundary portions between the recessed portions and the non-recessed portions, and are inversely transferred to the stamper and further inversely transferred to the disk substrate. This shape of the boundary portions improves the parting property and keeps the signal characteristics.
