PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus capable of preventing usage of a memory area of a storage medium itself of user and preventing information leakage even if intermediate generated data remain in the memory, without user's awareness when the storage medium of the user is connected and used as a memory area for operation to compensate functions which cannot be installed because an internal memory capacity is not sufficient. SOLUTION: Upon detecting that the storage medium of the user is connected, the user is urged to judge whether or not a new function using an area of the storage medium may be activated. When the storage medium of the user is used, data are subjected to encryption to prevent the data from being easily decrypted. In addition, for jobs for which printing or transmission is restricted, such as the data obtained by detecting scanned image of a bill or the data before adding a ground image of data to be added with a ground image and outputted, re-restriction is applied so as to inhibit the use of the area of the storage medium of the user even if the function is activated.
