PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable easy selection of a desired portion from an image. SOLUTION: The face of a person imaged in an image is detected through image data analysis. Based on the detection result, a position (target position) which becomes a target when setting a selection area is set in the image. Next, the set position of the selection area is determined so that a reference point of the selection area comes to the set target position. Then, by modification of the size of the selection area while the reference point of the selection area is maintained to the target position, the final selection area is set in the image. In general, a user tends to set such a composition as to arrange the face of the person to a suitable position, and therefore, by the above setting of the selection area based on the face of the person, the composition roughly matching the desire of the user is obtained.
