PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a membrane filtration apparatus which is capable of properly conducting the pasteurization and washing while preventing the scale generation due to the injection of an alkaline solution, and to provide a membrane washing method. SOLUTION: In the membrane filtration apparatus 1 which washes a membrane module 6 to filtrate seawater as a raw water by allowing the water filtrate through the membrane module 6 to flow backwards, it can conduct the pasteurization and washing properly while preventing the scale generation due to the injection of the alkaline solution because hydrogen peroxide within a hydrogen peroxide tank 9 in place of the alkaline solution is injected into the water filtrate used for the washing of the membrane module 6 in a stabilized state under acidity as a microbicide and detergent.
