PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the cost of a friction damper and make the friction damper compact. SOLUTION: This friction damper 10 for suppressing relative displacement comprises: a first pressure welding plate 11 which is provided on one 51 of a pair of members 51 and 52; a second pressure welding plate 21 which is provided on the other member 52; a third pressure welding plate 31 for sandwiching the first pressure welding plate 11 with a predetermined pressure welding force from both sides by the second and third pressure welding plates 21 and 31; and a bolt member 41b which is provided in such a manner as to be inserted through a first through-hole 13, long in a prescribed direction, of the first pressure welding plate 11, a second through-hole 23 of the second pressure welding plate 21, and a third through-hole 33 of the third pressure welding plate 31, so as to apply the pressure welding force.
