PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a customer stratum recognition device capable of efficiently recognizing a customer stratum in a short time with only the adults as customers even when the faces of adults and children are in a photographed image. SOLUTION: A face detecting frame is set in the photographed image, and the face detecting frame is moved to the whole photographed image to search the photographed image and to detect the faces in the photographed image. The size of the face detecting frame is set to the maximum at first, and if the face of that size is not found, the size of the face detecting frame is gradually made small. Only the largest faces in the photographed image are thereby detected, and the customer stratum such as sex and age is recognized based on the faces. When the customer stratum recognition result is younger than the teens, the photographed image is searched again to detect another face.
