PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical device and a projector with a prolonged service life. SOLUTION: This optical device 45 includes a plurality of light modulating devices 451 for modulating a plurality of color light in accordance with the information about image per color light, a cross dichroic prism 454 having a plurality of luminous flux incidence side end faces opposing to each light modulating device 451 and synthesizing the luminous flux modulated by each light modulating device 451 to form image light, a holding member 456 provided between the luminous flux incidence side end face of the cross dichroic prism 454 and the light modulating device 451 to fix the light modulating device 451 on the cross dichroic prism 454, and a plate spring part 4561 provided and integrated with the holding member 456 between the holding member 456 and the light modulating device 451.
