The punching tool (7) is made of a flat oblong material piece and has a cutting edge at a front side and a shaft running in longitudinal direction of the punching tool. The punching tool has a larger width at the cutting edge than at an area of the shaft and an area with similar width like the cutting edge at the shaft directly at the cutting edge. The intersection of the width of the cutting edge has a rounding at the area of lower width of the shaft. Independent claims are included for the following: (1) a punching unit for punching and a binding device; and (2) a punching and binding device with a frame.
