PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an iron nitride-based magnetic powder for use in high capacity backup magnetic tape for a computer which prevents the sintering of particles, has a narrow particle size distribution, and is suitable for high density recording.

SOLUTION: The method for manufacturing of the iron nitride-based magnetic powder includes the step of manufacturing metal oxide particles or metal hydroxide particles to which a specific element is adhered by using a media-type dispersion machine for an aqueous dispersion substance containing an aqueous solution of a water soluble compound of the specific element and the metal oxide particles or the metal hydroxide particles.
