PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a circular knitting machine with a rotatable blade for cutting a fabric tube. SOLUTION: A circular knitting machine for the production of an opened fabric tube includes a draw-off roller (4) and/or a take-up roller (5), drive means (28-34, 36, 37, 39-42) to drive the roller, a blade (19) for opening the fabric tube by cutting, and a flexible shaft (21), which is rigidly connected to the blade (19) for setting the blade (19) in rotation at a rotational speed dependent on a knitting speed, and drive means to drive the blade (19). The flexible shaft is driven at a constant, pre-selected speed, and the rotational speed of the flexible shaft can be adjusted in a simple manner.
