PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To maintain a uniform charging state for an image carrier over a long period of time by maintaining a stable cleaning operation. SOLUTION: In an image forming apparatus, charge supporting members 39, 43 are constituted such that a charge cleaning means 37 coming into contact with a charging means 25 for arrangement is moved following a movement of the charging means 25, while maintaining a contact position substantially in the same condition. Consequently, the contact pressure of both means 37, 25 is held in a uniform state so that unnecessary load may not be applied, thereby making the charge cleaning means 37 follow and move smoothly while maintaining good contact conditions with the charging means 25.
