<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an authentication system excellent in security properties, which is different from a conventionally proposed authentication system based on electronic information. <P>SOLUTION: The optical authentication system includes: a first polarizing element 10 having a plurality of minute structures 12 arranged in a prescribed arrangement pattern within a planar first substrate 11 having light transmitting property; and a second polarizing element 20 having a plurality of minute structures 22 arranged in a prescribed arrangement pattern on the basis of the arrangement pattern of the first polarizing elements 10, within a planar second substrate 21 having light transmitting property.
