SOLID PHOTOGRAPHING APPARATUS, AND CAMERA

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a solid-state photographing apparatus and a camera which so perform a series of operations comprising the generation and accumulation of photo-carriers, the read-out of charges, and the send-out (reset) of residual charges efficiently at a high speed and so degrade no sensitivity to blue light as to make the high sensitization of them and the miniaturization of picture elements possible.

SOLUTION: A picture element Cel of the photographing apparatus has a first conductivity type (n-type) first well 110 formed on the side of a first substrate-surface 101 of a substrate 100 and a second conductivity type (p-type) second well 120 formed on the nearer side than the first well 110 of a second substrate-surface 102. The first well 110 functions as a light-receiving portion for light-receiving light of making incident thereon from the side of the first substrate-surface 101 and has a photoelectric conversion function of the light-received light and a charge accumulating function. The second well 120 detects the accumulated charge in the light-receiving portion of the first well 110 and has a MOS-type transistor 130 formed having a threshold modulating function. A p-type element separating layer 140 is so formed on the side wall of the first well 110 as to surround them.
