PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical waveguide type wavelength dispersion compensation device which is made compact, has an excellent dispersion compensation characteristic and is easily manufactured at a low cost. SOLUTION: The optical waveguide type wavelength dispersion compensation device has an optical waveguide as a reflection type wavelength dispersion compensation means in which the equivalent refractive index of a core inhomogeneously varies over a light propagation direction by varying the physical dimensions of the core imbedded in a clad, wherein the optical wave guide has: a plurality of channels of dispersion-compensation wavelength regions; and a dispersion-compensation characteristic in which the dispersion is compensated only in a partial region out of the wavelength regions of the respective channels. It is preferable that the width of the core of the optical waveguide is inhomogeneously distributed in the light propagation direction. COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT |
