PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a white organic EL device excellent in external extraction quantum efficiency and lifetime, and also to provide a manufacturing method for the device, and a display unit and a lighting apparatus equipped with the device. SOLUTION: The white organic electroluminescent device has many organic layers including at least two light-emitting layers interposed between an anode-side substrate and a cathode-side substrate. A first light-emitting layer nearest to the anode-side substrate among the light-emitting layers, contains at least one of hole transportation material, and at least one of organometallic complex which has a light-emitting wavelength of 600 to 640 nm.
