PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a reed switch which is small, has high breaking performance, and has less effect on switching action of a magnetic field of a permanent magnet. SOLUTION: The reed switch includes two reed pieces 2a, 2b fixed on both ends of a glass tube 1 and extended to its center part, a fixed contact 3a and a movable contact 3b fixed on the reed pieces in a center part of the glass tube 1 with a predetermined air gap formed, a drive coil 6 provided on an outer circumference part of the glass tube for driving the reed pieces, and a pair of permanent magnets 7a, 7b by which a magnetic field in a direction at a right angle direction to the longitudinal direction of the reed pieces acts on the air gap between the contacts.
