PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To install a pressure suppression chamber in a large pressurized water reactor. SOLUTION: A reactor containment vessel for containing a reactor pressure vessel 2 storing a core 1 of the pressurized water reactor and a steam generator 3 includes a containment vessel body 7, a diaphragm partition 9 for separating the containment vessel body 7 into an upper vessel 10 and a lower vessel 11, the pressure suppression chamber 12 that has a pressure suppression pool 13 capable of storing water and whose gaseous phase section communicates with the upper vessel 10, and a LOCA vent pipe 15 for connecting the pressure suppression pool 13 to the lower vessel 11. An equipment such as the reactor pressure vessel 2 constituting a reactor coolant pressure boundary, or the steam generator 3, and a piping such as cold leg piping 4 or hot leg piping 5 are stored in the lower vessel 11.
