<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a piezoelectric actuator that can be accurately displaced in a desired direction and to provide a driving method for the piezoelectric actuator. <P>SOLUTION: The piezoelectric actuator is obtained by alternately laminating a piezoelectric layer polarized in the direction of thickness and an electrode. The actuator includes: a first area that is expanded and contracted in the direction of laminating the piezoelectric layers; and a second area that can be divided with respect to the first area by a plane parallel with the direction of laminating the piezoelectric layers and is expanded and contracted in the direction opposite to that of expansion and contraction of the first area. The actuator can be bent by the expansion and contraction of the first area and the second area. As a result, the actuator can be bent so that its upper surface faces either area.
