<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical element which comprises an in-cell phase difference layer and a plurality of columns directly or indirectly on a light transmissive substrate and has a high voltage retaining rate when used as a substrate on one side of a liquid crystal cell, the liquid crystal cell with high electric reliability using the optical element, and a manufacturing method of the optical element. <P>SOLUTION: This optical element comprises at least the light transmissive substrate and the plurality of columns. The lower end face of the column is constituted to contact with the other layer which is always below a phase difference layer face, and more specifically a middle layer formed on the light transmissive substrate or between the light transmissive substrate and the phase difference layer. This manufacturing method includes a column forming process before performing a phase difference layer forming process in order to prevent the optical element comprising the light transmissive substrate, the phase difference layer, and the plurality of columns from damaging the phase difference layer due to exposure to the forming process of the column. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT |
