<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and apparatus, for restoring a compressed image, which can reduce blocking artifacts and ringing effects generated in a decoded image signal. <P>SOLUTION: A compressed image restoring apparatus of an image processing system is configured to define a smoothing functional having a degree of smoothing an image and reliability for an original image by pixels having an identical property in image block units, and to compute a restored image by performing a gradient operation on the smoothing functional in regard to the original image. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT</p> |
