PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a system for finding the location of a device connected to a network path to which destination devices are attached. SOLUTION: A documentation system includes a port which includes an electronic module with an identification code. The destination device includes an identification code and the source device sends query signals along a network path addressed to the port and destination device. The electronic module of the data port responds to the query addressed and transmits its identification code to the source device. A processor and a switch send the query signal to the source device, directs the source device to interpret the responses, and the electronic modules corresponding to the data port and to the destination port are powered by a local power source and patch cord.
