PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a video display device capable of displaying subtitles which are easy for a viewer to see by displaying images corresponding to cast names in the subtitles. SOLUTION: A still image is captured from a video, a desired part in the captured still image is cut to obtain an image for subtitles, and an image for subtitles acquired for each content identified with identification information and a cast name indicating which speech of an appearing person displayed subtitles correspond to are related to each other and registered. Consequently, identification information of a program being reproduced at present matches the registered identification information, and when a character string constituting subtitles includes a cast name, replacement with an image for subtitles related to the cast name is carried out to perform special subtitle display including the replacing image.
