PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve responsiveness of chasing playback when video data is recorded and reproduced while accessing a recording medium from a port and especially a plurality of essence constituting a clip are recorded as separated files. SOLUTION: Link information relating a region holding master essence and a region holding remaining essence and identification information of essence held each region out of memory 2 holding temporarily clip during recording and playing back a recording medium 4 are generated. When the playback of the clip is required, it is searched whether the master essence in the clip is held in the memory 2, using identification information.
