PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a glycerol hyper-branch polymer having a great number of functional groups on the surface of the outermost contour and derivatives of the polymer, which can be efficiently produced without complicated processes compared to conventional methods. SOLUTION: The hyper-branch polymer is obtained by addition polymerization of a compound expressed by general formula (I) in the presence of an acid catalyst and has hydroxyl groups at molecular ends. In formula (I), X represents a substituted alkane which may have a heteroatom in the molecule; a glycidyl ether group and a hydroxyl group are coupled to a common carbon atom or different carbon atoms constituting the substituted alkane; m represents an integer of 2 or more; and n represents an integer of 1 or more, satisfying m>n>0.
