COMPOSITION AND METHOD FOR PREVENTING RESTENOSIS FOLLOWING REVASCULARIZATION PROCEDURE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method which reduces or prevents restenosis following invasiveness revascularization procedures, and to provide a composition therefor. SOLUTION: The method for reducing or preventing the restenosis that occurs following the revascularization procedure, comprises administering to a mammal in need of such treatment a pharmaceutical composition comprising a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier or diluent and an active agent selected from a group consisting of, (a) a selective adenosine A2Areceptor agonist, (b) the combination of a selective adenosine A1antagonist and either a selective adenosine A2Areceptor agonist or a non-selective adenosine agonist, and (c) a selective adenosine A1antagonist in order to block the adenosine A1receptor activation by endogenously released adenosine.
