PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an industrially advantageous method for producing asymmetric monoazamethine cyanines having a combination of various heterocycles, specifically by a reduced number of reaction steps without requiring the use of specific equipment. SOLUTION: The method for producing a desired asymmetric monoazamethine cyanine by one-pot reaction comprises reacting two types of 2-aminoheterocycles in the presence of an alkylating agent in a solvent without isolating an N-alkylated onium salt of an azole derivative of the precursor in the conventional cyanine dye synthesis.
