<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a surface modification method of a carbonaceous material such as an activated carbon fiber in which the pore size or the specific surface area which contributes to desulfurization or denitrification has been increased, and to provide a carbonaceous material or activated carbon fiber obtained by the method. <P>SOLUTION: The surface modification method of a carbonaceous material according to the present invention comprises heat-treating the carbonaceous material in a temperature range of 250 to 1,100°C to increase the amount of oxygen functional groups and burning the resulting material in a higher temperature range of 800 to 1,200°C to increase the surface pore size and increase the specific surface area. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT |
