PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a bearing device for a wheel capable of preventing generation of stick-slip noise by regulating the surface property of a calked part to realize smooth sliding on an abutting counter member. SOLUTION: In the bearing device for the wheel, an outer joint member 11 internally fitted to a hub ring 1 in a torque transmitting manner with a pair of inner rings 16, 6 being pressed in a small diameter stepped part 1b of the hub ring 1 is fastened to the hub ring 1 by a fixing nut 13 in a separable manner. A shoulder part 9 of the outer joint member 11 and a large end face 6b of the inner ring 6 are ground, the large end face 6b is machined breadthways after the grinding, and formed in a surface state in which any mirror surface part of ≥0.005 mm<SP>2</SP>is not present in one part. Thus, the friction coefficient is reduced to realize the smooth sliding on the shoulder part 9, and generation of stick slip noise can be prevented over a long time. COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT
