PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for removing a ruthenium-containing catalyst residue from an optionally hydrogenated nitrile rubber. SOLUTION: The novel optionally hydrogenated nitrile rubber characterized in that a ruthenium content is extremely low, and a method for removing the ruthenium-containing catalyst residue from a solution of the optionally hydrogenated nitrile rubber by using a specific functionalized ion exchange resin are provided.
