An apparatus for preventing back flow of cold air of a refrigerator and a control method of the refrigerator are provided to block a cold air discharging hole by using a shape memory alloy when the operation of a damper is stopped. An apparatus for preventing back flow of cold air of a refrigerator includes a cold room duct, a cold air outlet, a cold air shield, and a cold air controller(510). The cold room duct transfers cold air passing through a damper to a cold room. The cold air outlet is formed on the cold room duct and discharges cold air into the cold room. The cold air shield is mounted on the cold air outlet and opens/closes the cold air outlet. The cold air controller opens the cold air shield to make cold air flow into the cold room when a compressor(100) operates and closes the cold air shield to block back flow of cold air when the compressor stops.
