A motor vehicle bumper arrangement

A bumper arrangement for use on a high fronted vehicle comprises an elongated bumper cover 20 extending horizontally across the front of the vehicle (figure 2) and an elongated grille bar 21 extending across the major part of the front of the vehicle at a level above that of the major part of the bumper cover 20. The grille bar comprises at its rear side a stiffening member 23 extending substantially across the length of the grille bar increasing the resistance of the grille bar to the rearward motion and thus reducing the bending angle of the legs and improving the pedestrian safety. The stiffening member is located at a height between 680 mm to 795 mm from the ground, and may have a hollow C-shape section and be made from steel or aluminium alloys. The stiffening member may be attached to the grille bar by means of tabs 27 or fasteners (30, figure 9).
