A digital photographing device and a control method thereof for performing a face recognition algorithm are provided to obtain a desired image by performing the face recognition algorithm and controlling the exposure value. A face of a subject is photographed and the first video signal is generated(S11-S13). The face recognition algorithm is performed by using the first video signal. In case the face recognition is not good from the first video signal, the exposure value is controlled(S14, S15). According to the controlled exposure value, the face of the subject is photographed and the second video signal is generated. The face recognition algorithm is performed by using the second video signal(S18). The exposure value is greater than the standards exposure value. The exposure value is controlled by the first exposure value smaller than the exposure value.
