An apparatus and a method for controlling optimum optical power are provided to record data in an optical disc accurately by controlling writing optical power, corresponding to a peak base, into optimum optical power. An apparatus for controlling optimum optical power comprises: a step detecting each error rate by reproducing test data with writing optical power, which gradually increases, to two error correcting code(ECC) blocks among PCA domain of the optical disc; and a step controlling the writing optical power corresponding to a peak base with the optimum optical power after conforming the peak base of parabola corresponding to each error rate. |
