A method for improving jitter tolerance, a communication receiver, and a method for controlling a slew rate are provided to improve the jitter tolerance of the communication receiver by applying the output of an SFP limiting amplifier to a low pass filter and applying the reception signal to the SFP limiting amplifier. A communication receiver(130) includes an SFP limiting amplifier(150), a low pass filter and a data and eye detector(170). The SFP limiting amplifier processes the reception signal. The low pass filter filters the output of the SFP limiting amplifier for improving the jitter tolerance. The data and eye detector restores the transmitted information. The low pass filter applies the programmable amount of attenuation to a harmonic element of the output.
